I only started reading your blog a week or two ago, so I'm not familiar with Kitten. Do you think he would have healed properly and kept the leg if the client's family had followed through with physical therapy?

In a word: yes. Usually these cases do extremely well. Not to boast of my surgical skills but the surgery was picture-perfect. As someone who doesn`t do many orthopedic surgeries, I was initially concerned that my care was somehow responsible. However, the board-certified veterinary surgeon took a look at his leg and the X-rays and assured me the repair was very well done. I was extremely frustrated at the outcome, of course, but these things happen.

It must have been frustrating, with client the client not making sure the therapy was continued and then not wanting to take the necessary step of removing the leg. Sounds like Kitten is going to do alright, all things considered. I'm glad it turned out well.

The owner was unable to pay for an orthopedist, then went on vacation, and left the care of the kitten with someone who was not reliable, or was not advised clearly of what the kitten needed. Sounds like an owner who should just rent pets instead of owning them.
