Why do people who obviously don't give a damn about their dogs make a final stand like this? To impress a young lady vet? I don't get it.

I don't get it either Gina. It was like reading a mystery novel with a surprise ending that you never saw coming.
How much are they wiling to spend to extend this miserable dogs miserable existence? Here is the Northeast, we are much less tolerant of outdoor dogs.

I agree with both previous posts. This is an unhealthy, geriatric animail that has been neglected for the last 12 years or so (a dog that is allowed to live outside in the rain and allowed to get so infected that maggots are eating his rotting flesh is neglected) and now what is the owner trying to prove and to whom.

Red deserves the dignity of a quiet passing not to be poked and prodded and in pain.

I feel for you Dr Patty and have the utmost admiration for your unending paitence with some of the not very bright people there are out there.
