As a family member of a crazy cat lady, I was amazed at the extremes that the other family members would go to, to keep anyone from knowing about her problem. My aunt was diagnosed with cancer and self medicated until it was too late for a real chance at recovery. She also had a two story house full of cats. When she became too ill to stay alone she was moved to her sister's house and cared for until her death. In the meantime the sister kept the keys to the cat house and refused to let anyone in to see to the animals, she would only go long enough to leave food and water, and never cleaned up anything. After her death (almost a year later), her sister was forced legally to hand over the keys to another family member who went in and found at least 30 cats and kittens and a house full of feces. My grandmother and a friend went in and after removing the cats, cleaned the house on their hands and knees rather than calling in a cleaning service because they were afraid someone would find out about it.
