Thanks so much for your information. I did start mixing in an Indoor Cat food a couple of months ago that is supposed to help with shedding. That would be a simple solution to Samurai's licking problem. I didn't think about that since Ling Ling is not showing the same behavior and they eat the same food. I'm anxiously waiting for your next installment to see what foods you suggest I try to see if it is, in fact, a food allergy.

My diabetic cat has grain allergies. When encountering rice, corn, or wheat, she has a spot on her forearm that she licks raw, and she gets ulcers on her face. She also has the classic bald spot on her belly. Coupled with her obesity and her fussy eating, she's a challenge for our vet. Currently, she will eat as a staple Innova Evo dry, and the occasional packet of Nutro shared with the other cats. She liked the r/d and was able to actually lose weight with it. But that's when we found the diabetes, because it dropped too fast. A full pound in a week is a huge flag there is something wrong! Starting the insulin and switching to the Evo stabilized her blood sugars, but of course the weight is creeping back up (1.1 pounds in 3 months). She's currently at 13.8 pounds. At her heaviest, she was 17+, at her lightest as an adult cat she was 4. She sees our vet every other month, pretty much. We're trying hard to get her better. She's currently 14 years old or so. I did try BARFing our animals about 6 years ago. She was one of 2 cats that refused it (we had 5 cats and 1 dog at that time and since not all wanted to switch, we went back to the old foods).

Thank you for the informative articles.
