Pet Patients The ultimate Christmas kitty...

This is so much like my little tripod kitty, who was brought into our shelter with a similar scenario--brought in in a box by a good Samaritan, with a horribly fractured and maggot-infested hind leg. Our shelter vet happened to be there and had some free time, so he debrided the leg and pinned the fracture. After 2 days, the wound was not healing, and he considered euthanasia. But she was so sweet and loving that he amputated the leg at the proximal femur. She did well post-op, and after 4 weeks in foster care, she came to live with me. She is active, playful and loving, and at 6 months of age and 6 pounds, terrorizes my 2 Labs and my 15-pound Ragdoll cat. As I write this she is halfway up the Christmas tree, chirping at me to chase her out. And I did consider the name Lucky, but shortened it to Lucy. I am actually considering a second tripod kitty at present, if I can only convince my husband to agree.

Shellie: I wish other people would come to understand that sometimes amputation is by far the best solution. The pain and stress of definitive repair is just not worth it unless you can do it right, Unfortunately, too often that means the expertise of a boarded surgeon. I can pin a leg but some fractures (like this one) need so much more. And tripods are soooo cute!

Hurray for people who rescue hurt cats, even if they're eccentric!

May little Forrest have a long, loving life.
