I just found your blog through Dogster.

While I've haven't worked in or for an animal hospital for 5 years, I found this entry highly entertaining as it reminds me of one of the vets I used to work for.

Since she was/ is allergic to rabbits, it seemed as though she'd end up with all the strange cases that walked through the door including snakes. She'd see owners come in ( usually men) with their tied off pillow cases and cringe. Considering that snakes were not her specialty, she did well and continues to tolerate such owners that have followed her to her own clinic.

This vet I speak of remains to be my vet today even though I throw her a curve ball occasionally.

The last one was when I discovered a mysterious lump on the left side of my yellow-footed tortoises neck. She agreed to remove it ( and did) but what I have yet to live down is the simple fact that Zelda refused to go to sleep for atleast 2 hours before the surgery could happen. She never became angry with me or the lack of Zelda's need to sleep, but I still hear about it when one of my other "children" do something they shouldn't be while they are there for their yearly physicals or what have you.

I take her tauntings for that they are worth as she's the best. She has treated my rescued German Shepard for heartworm disease ( thanks to 3 abusive prior owners and a shelter that lied about testing her) spayed her and had to open her up twice for an intestinal re-section due to a cancerous mass that even the lab couldn't figure out what it was.

Happy New Year and may those pushy, obnoxious clients leave you alone.

Yep. I would've sent the tortoise across the street to the surgeon. Don't get me wrong. I love reptiles (I even have a corn snake at home--Miss Dart) but working on them is another story. I just don't feel qualified--it wouldn't be right for me to take care of them when my area has plenty of exotic animal vets to tend to their needs. And thanks for the moral support!
