I agree that pampering your pet is more for the human than the animal but sometimes folks go way too far!

I mean, shouldn't you WALK your dog instead of carrying him in a bag?? Animals should not be a fashionable accessory because when the season and style change, will you just trade in your dog for a more fashionable one?

And you may save money by not buying a rhinestone collar but I sure hope that article mentions spending the money you save on other worthwhile pet investments to keep your pet happy and fulfilled!

LOL @ Susan for the walking the dog comment. Have you had your share of seeing dogs that don't know how to walk on their 4 feet as well?

I'm not into buying my pets all kinds of lavish stuff.

The dogs have a big basket of toys and plenty of snuggly blankets to curl up in / on. My Jack Russell is terrifed of doggie coats or sweaters so I don't buy those and my German Shepard has enough fuzz to make atleast 3 mini versions of herself.

I have stuffed toy mice all over the house to satisfy my cats. I don't bother buying them beds as they like to hog mine. How many cat owners will openly confess to waking up every morning feeling like a pretzel as heaven forbid the felines of the house be booted from their favorite sleeping spots.

The birds get new toys on a as needed basis. More often than not, they get their feathers in a bunch when I add new toys anyway until they get the courage to actually test out whatever the new thing is.

My chinchilla gets new things to chew on as he needs them. All said things are always "chew safe" and the rest of them are happy to have fruit mixed in with their veggies that they'd rather not eat, but have no choice as I put everything through the food processor. If I don't mix it, they'll pick out all the fruit and leave the rest. Meh! The joys of owning reptiles.

Would having rhinestone collars improve their lives? Nope. Do I knock people that buy them? No, although I think a spiked collar on a min-pin that weighs 15 pounds soaking wet with doggie boots on looks silly.

I am horrible about saving money when it comes to my dogs and I don't really buy them fancy collars and such. I spend a fortune on fresh foods and good vet care. Those are the most important things to me.
