Looking forward to tomorrow's post. Sassy fat cat is allergic to corn and rice and mildly to wheat. The grains cause major skin ulcers. She is also a diabetic, and when she gets an ulcer, it takes a long time to heal. We free-feed, and she's the only fat one we have. Whenever we mess with the diets too much, one of the other cats stop eating and get ill. Our compromise is currently feeding everyone Innova Evo- a grain-free dry food. No ulcers on the fat cat, but her weight is definitely not under control. Her case is definitely more complicated than most.

What about the issue of yeast. I have read a lot about yeast as result of a high-carbohydrate diet. So, it isn't intolerance to one thing, but all/most grains.

Kim: I assume you're referring to yeast infections (in the ears, on the skin) as a result of allergic response to an allergen. I am unaware of any condition where carbohydrate sources as a whole are to blame. Grains can be molecularly similar so I can believe that an animal that's allergic to one might be allergic to another. But each animal responds individually when we're talking about allergies. No one diet will work for all allergic pets.
