You may think me a midge strange for suggesting it, but veterinary medicine’s charms comprise more than cerebral challenges and emotional highs; vet medicine is also beautiful…as in, aesthetically pleasing to a high degree.
From a breathtaking birds-eye view through a microscope’s lens...

...to the snaking rivers of barium in an X-rayed abdomen,

my job is—at times—nothing short of visually stunning.
Though I work in a forty-year-old strip mall and constantly feel the need to apologize for the tatty look of the place, this job offers plenty of room for daily magnificence. Beyond the perfection of a newborn pup...

...and the luxurious look of a purebred cat are the humble, everyday splendors I most admire:
Everything from the whitest shade of a simple canine tooth...

...to the majestic black of a melanoma...

...it’s all potentially admirable—if you adopt the right point of view.
Even surgery, stool or pathology can be visually interesting and dazzlingly beautiful:

Have you ever seen electron microscopy of a retrovirus? I dare you to find something so perfectly beautiful in your entire life. I don’t think even diamons can look so pristine:

OK, so maybe it’s me. Perhaps I just have an overdeveloped aesthetic sensibility—for a vet. Maybe I should have continued my study in art history and set vet school aside to pursue my PhD. Even if I had, somehow I don’t think my life would have been too different.
Can you imagine a thesis on the representation of canids in nineteenth-century landscape painting?

Well I have always said that the Art of Veterinary Medicine was more important than the Science !! Dealing with pet owners day in day out is most definantly an Art.

Love the pics, and love the idea of 'vet art'. You should use blowups of these on the walls...just for a change from the standard 'obese dog' and 'science diets' that just about every vet (in SA at least) seems to have as decoration.
But what fascinates me most is the puppy pic - are those your hands? And if so, OMG HOW do you manage to keep your nails looking so good!

I don't think I will ever stop being amazed by the arrival of new life... pulling a prem foal into the world - and then making sure it survived - was partly what made me realise I wanted to be a vet in the first place. Had exactly the same feeling yesterday delivering a gorgeous bull calf.
There is such beauty in the world around us - the microscopy is indeed absolutely awe-inspiring. If I was going to parallel anything in the man-made world it would have to be something like the great pyramids, or maybe the Sydney harbour bridge (which last time I was there I stood and admired for a good half hour - over developed sense of aesthetics you say? Hah!).

For the record--those are NOT my nails. Can you imagine surgery, ear cleanings or rectals with those? I don't think so. But hey--maybe there's a vet out there who can get away with them.

In 1981, ed hardy and his wife formed Hardy Marks Publications. In 2004, Christian Bale licensed the rights to produce the high-end Ed Hardy UK line, which is based on Hardy's imagery. Prior to the ed hardy clothing line, Bale was the Head Designer at Von Dutch Originals, which marketed the imagery of Kenny Howard. Don ed hardy, commented, As demand for my artwork continues to skyrocket, I felt it was ed hardy clothing time to take on a partner that could help me manage the demand and opportunities for the ed hardy T-shirts name. Iconix is at the forefront of brand management and clearly has the capabilities to dramatically grow the Ed Hardy UK business. I'm thrilled to have them as a partner. Cheap Ed Hardy are located in everywhere. We also believe that by owning the brand alongside ed hardy clothing, the founder, there will be opportunities to further leverage his iconic name along with his new artwork.
