Vet Stress Hey! Hands off my client! (or, When vets squabble over you and your pets)

My vet was accused of stealing clients when she purchased her own clinic. She didn't steal anything, she has earned a large following at the former clinic she worked for that was taken for granted. All of that ugliness could have been avoided if her bid for that clinic was accepted, but since it wasn't and she didn't like the idea of a corporate owned animal hospital, she went out and found one of her own.

Since then, the former clinic that we both worked for has chilled out with their nasty, back-stabbing comments, but there is still the occasional comment made that gets back to her. She just laughs it off as she isn't holding any of her clients to her with a gun to their head. If they want to leave, they are more than welcome to do so. She doesn't need the aggravation of trying to keep a client that simply doesn't want to be there for whatever reason.

I completely agree with her thoughts on corporate owned clinics and since she's the one that spent the most time treating my animals, it was natural for me to follow her wherever she ended up. Before she had a place to cll home and grow roots into, she was here doing housecalls.

The other hospital may claim that she stole me, but it was made very clear of what I thought of them and their policies before I left, so there was no misunderstanding when I picked up my records and bid them farewell.

Yep. We have a situation like that as well where one vet is suing another for stealing (unjustly, IMO). When large numbers of clients move to follow one particular doc, that's not usually considered stealing--it's clients voting with their feet.

I guess I had no idea how valuable we (my pets and I) are as clients. It kind of explains how our records ended up at another vet's office when my long term vet abruptly closed her practice and took another job unrelated to veterinary care. We had no notification except an ad that appeared in our local shopper's guide thanking everyone for their business and stating that all records had been turned over to XYZ. Now, this new vet group may be great - but, I guess I thought that I got to make the choices for my animals. As long as we are hostages they'll get a chance - but I am grudging them that, due to the way this was handled by my previously respected vet.

Rest assured I won't be taking out my displeasure on the new vets and techs, thanks to this blog! ; )
