It is pretty funny that you have a shiba inu in the picture attached to this article. I have two shibas - in the morning when I put them in their pen with a kong, treat balls and toys, they have no idea I even exist. I wish I could say it was training..it is really just the aloofness of a shiba.

Kelli: We have one shiba in the hospital with two cruciate tears and an obesity issue. He's not aloof when it comes to being fed and walked. He has that funny bark of theirs.

God love 'em, I could talk about shibas all day - and to the chagrin of my co-workers, usually do. They just have such unique personalities. I know the exact bark you are referring to.

As far as separation anxiety - they love to see me for the first 5 minutes I'm home, but they are perfectly happy to be playing in the yard without me as soon as possible. Cats in dog bodies. And don't even get me started on the baths - that always draws a true shiba scream.

I can't imagine an overweight shiba - mine do the Shiba 500 at least twice a day and aren't real big eaters. Poor little guy - I knew the luxating (?) patellas are usually an issue in puppy mill dogs. Is it more of a breed thing than mistreatment? To the internet I go...

Before I leave my dogs hear the sentence "Who wants a kong?" They race to their crates and love to see me leave. (I keep stuffed kongs at the ready in the freezer.)

Sadly I think you are right Dr. Patty. Many people are always looking for the easy and cheap way out. It is good to hear about the DVD though. Maybe it will help more than a few people understand it is a two pronged approach.

I really liked the article. I did find the part about Reconcile " just approved " by the FDA funny. What does the FDA know about safe drugs? Considering everything that is going on I think I'll wait awhile before asking my vet for some.
