This post is long overdue. Today (yesterday for y’all) I snail-mailed The Miami Herald from May 18th to Gina Spadafori of PetConnection.com. On that day, she was front-and-center of the business section (in color, even) after my local paper picked up a national story on blogger-power in the wake of the pet food recall.
Gina has almost single-handedly served as point-person for pet food recall issues since the story exploded on March 19th. I don’t think she sleeps much these days and I figured she needed a little pick-me-up care package from Miami to light her way as she continues to slog through the murky waters of this still-evolving crisis for us.
PetConnection and other blogs (Itchmo, PetSitUSA, among many others) have shown us what the blogosphere can do when it does its job well. Complain as they might (for our lack of journalistic training and unregulated content), traditional media have to hand it to us bloggers: we know how to put public opinion in perspective by getting info out ASAP and recruiting readers to glean what they can from our unique blend of news and opinion.
Apart from the Herald piece, a couple of other articles have been forwarded my way. Both are from USA Today (one under Technology and one in the Money section). They all credit pet blogs with providing much-needed, day-to-day information on the recall, keeping the issue in the media spotlight, and demonstrating how important this issue has been for millions of pet owners concerned about their pets’ well-being.
I’m unhappy to have to continue to explain (to both readers and clients) how various toxins affect their pets. It’s embarrassing for the pet food industry, humiliating for vets and stressful for everyone on many levels. But if this medium helps anyone, I’m proud to continue to offer my vet-centric opinion and field all your comments. It’s your interest and concern that fuels the blogosphere-assisted power of our communal search for justice on behalf of our pets.

Thanks, Dr. K! On our blog, Christie Keith deserves a ton of credit, too. She's a "night owl" and I'm an "early bird." Together, that means we were pretty much a 24/7 "news operation" at the height of it.
Of course, I'm even more delighted to get pictures of my pets in the paper, especially the newest family member, Miss Clara, a/k/a The Cutest Kitten Ever.

I agree 200%!
Applause needs to be given to Gina, Christie and Itchmo for their tireless information gathering and reporting both BEFORE and after the pet food recall.
Dr. Patty, I know what you mean about having to repeat information. I work in the pet food industry (our store carries mostly truly premium brands and has been thankfully mostly untouched by the recalls... so far) and it never fails to shock me every time I have to explain for another pet owner that YES, there are recalls, and YES they are serious, and NO they are not remotely over.
I actually had someone today asking for Iams (which we have never, will never carry) and when I mentioned the recall she promptly claimed that HER food was not involved, because Iams is the best brand available!
Some days I fight for the strength to continue... most days, it's Gina, Christie and Itchmo who provide it. Their tireless fight for all things good and pet-related is an inspiration to the rest of us, and I check all three on a daily basis to ensure that I'm on top of the most recent newsbreaks.
After all, they are the only remaining source for what news used to be comprised of... the TRUTH.
Here, here.

In 1981, ed hardy and his wife formed Hardy Marks Publications. In 2004, Christian Bale licensed the rights to produce the high-end Ed Hardy UK line, which is based on Hardy's imagery. Prior to the ed hardy clothing line, Bale was the Head Designer at Von Dutch Originals, which marketed the imagery of Kenny Howard. Don ed hardy, commented, As demand for my artwork continues to skyrocket, I felt it was ed hardy clothing time to take on a partner that could help me manage the demand and opportunities for the ed hardy T-shirts name. Iconix is at the forefront of brand management and clearly has the capabilities to dramatically grow the Ed Hardy UK business. I'm thrilled to have them as a partner. Cheap Ed Hardy are located in everywhere. We also believe that by owning the brand alongside ed hardy clothing, the founder, there will be opportunities to further leverage his iconic name along with his new artwork.
