Awwww, you made me cry! The story of the recovering cat is the happiest thing I've heard lately. I love when stories like this have a happy ending. Thank you for saving their kitty!

I personally want to thank you for taking that kitty in.

I participated last year in trying to track down a vet who would help late at night for a stranger 1,200 miles away with a kitty with a blocked urinary tract. The owner went to the vet during regular hours but couldn't afford treatment and the money was wanted up front. So basically treatment was refused. She emailed a friend who belonged to the feline diabetes web board, who posted her plight there.

Several of us upon reading it knew how dire the situation was but that it could be fully remedied if treated immediately so we started calling vets in her area offering to put up a credit card for emergency treatment that night as he had been this way quite a while already.

Long story short, the cat made a difficult but full recovery and members of the feline diabetes board contributed to the person who fronted the credit card and arranged for him to be seen that night.

The vet who refused service earlier in the day was a real pain when I talked to her by phone. She was angry at the client, perhaps for previous missed bills, and somehow it irritated her that others were stepping in to help. To her credit, she did eventually come around. And ultimately another vet in town stepped up to provide the care.

What a gift to give that family!!! And so much the better that they expressed their deep appreciation.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one. I can't count the number of times I have taken an X-ray at no cost to the owner, because they couldn't afford it, and I wanted to make sure kitty hadn't broken her leg, or the dog hadn't eaten the kid's toys. The eternal balance between earning a living and maintaining compassion in your work.

How is the peritonitis dog doing btw?

Mette: Can you believe he went home yesterday? I contacted the first vet who had just received the culture and sensitivity results. Using chloramphenicol and ampicillin, we cleared the infection rapidly. I have to say, the first guy was doing an excellent job, despite the gut leak at the time of surgery (which can happen to all of us, right?).

Post-op complications are frustrating for everyone involved. No matter how well you've done your job, Mother Nature sometimes messes up things anyway. Nice to hear that he beat the odds and got through allright!
