Oh no! My heart goes out to you, and to Sophie Sue as well. I will be praying that you make the right decision for her. Hugs coming your way!

I'm sorry to read that things are getting better for poor Sophie. Sending best wishes.

Awww Soph, so sorry about you back. And sorry for mom too. I am a very skeptical person about things like Reiki etc. But my kitty Jamaica (RIP) benefitted greatly from it during her life for her chronic skin condition. Despite my skepticism, and when all other treatments had failed. Good luck little frog dog, you are in our thoughts!

Poor Sophie Sue :( I can only imagine how anxious you must feel. Sending both of you good wishes for her successful treatment!

Poor Sophie Sue! I'll be glad to send some Reiki to her (and to you, if you like) in hopes that the situation works out for the greatest good of all concerned.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about poor Sophie. You're both in my thoughts today. Hugs to you both- but gentle hugs for doggie.

Hugs to you and Sophie.

I'm so sorry. I went through this with my terrier Izzy (slipped a disc jumping out of bed), and it's so horrible to see your dog suffering and try to figure out which is the best decision to make. I hope the reiki provides some relief and that you can get some rest.

Good luck, hope the Reiki works. We're firm believers in alternative treatments coupled with the best of vet knowledge and skill. Glad Sophie has access to both.
hugs...

Deepest empathy for you, Dr. Kuhly, & hopes for a speedy resolution for Sophie Sue! I've experienced IVDD with two of my Sealyhams, one recovered fully with conservative treatment and one needed surgery. My 8 1/2 yr. old did not have a myelogram but a non-invasive MRI instead. In addition to a herniated disc, she underwent a "fenestration" on a chronic bulging disk. Her outcome was successful, I'm pleased to say.
I'll be curious to hear on the benefits of trying Reiki as an alternative treatment.

Sorry to hear about your baby. Working with back problems every day still didn't help me when it became my own pet. Sending good thoughts your way.

Sophie was better last night but back to the same this morning--a little better, perhaps. More valium and a good light massage. On the Reiki: I can't say enough about the generosity of my client on this score. I'm sure she felt better afterwards, though you may think me kooky to believe in this. If it can't do any harm and I've reached the limits of my medicine, I'm all for it.

Best wishes to little Sophie, and (of course) to her mom.

Michael E December 16th, 2007 03:29:00 PM

Sorry to read about Sophie. Hoping I'll run into both her and "Mom" while I'm MIA for Xmas, and doing better.

Cheers

I have a huge lump in my throat reading this!!!!! I'm so sorry for Sophie Sue and you! Please keep us posted...... (((hugs)))

So far so good-she's doing better but still on hefty meds. No myelogram for now.

(Inigo: Call me and don't leave before you see me this time!)

Dr. Patty Khuly December 18th, 2007 08:56:00 AM

I can completely understand your emotions on this one. We had this start with our Dalmatian in the spring of 2007 and finally went for the myelogram. There were three discs that would require surgical attention. We had the surgery done in September and unfortunately afterwards she had an infarction and was unable to stand. It has been a long road - she has recovered a good amount of deep pain sensation and is starting to get up on her own (we do physio 3x a day and we take her to hydrotherapy swim - which is amazing! We also got the "bottoms up" leash and are able to take her out for small walks (with boots on to protect those back toes). Keep having to remember patience though - it doesn't improve overnight. After all - if she were a human - they'd probably still have her in the hospital.

Wishing Sophie a good recovery! Our Beanie says to hang in there! Keep positive.
