Gina! Wheeek! SO true!

Piggies love to hide. Make sure you get one or two of those igloos or, large diameter cardboard tubes......my parents' pigs always hide their faces under things when they are scared, never the whole body. I fear they must not 'make it' in the wild if that is their approach to concealing themselves. Lol......

They've got toys and tubes galore--though they chewed through one of the "safe for pigs" ferret tubes. So much for those fifteen bucks.

Congratulations on the new G. Pig!

I have noticed it takes my guinea pigs about two weeks to adapt fully to any change. They are a bit slow, but I'm sure Orange will be 'popping' and 'squeeking' away in no time. Regular handling of the pigs or 'lap time' with a few green morsels is also a good way to foster friendly, calm piggies (it takes them a few days in a row of consistent 'lap time' to figure out what it really means).

As for allergies it took me two years to figure out I was allergic to Timothy Hay, much more than the Guinea Pigs. I found that Orchard Grass from Oxbow (you can get it shipped to you on-line) doesn't even make me sneeze. It has been worth the change- as now I have no fear of reactions when handling the pigs. You may want to give it a go for a month or two to see if the allergies are reduced. (also invest in a neti pot- it is odd but it works) ;-)

Aw cute! I used to live in Germany, so I love the german names! Why have you chosen them, out of interest! My late guinea-pig was called Amigo! By the way, that article was about Switzerland, not Sweden-I noticed at the time the person who posted the link made the same mistake!

I wouldn't worry to bad about the dogs. Unless their very prey driven. My corgi and rats LOVE each other and will snuggle when both are tired. I had a baby rat that would hide under her front feet, I'm guessing for "protection" from the big mean people hands. =)

Oops, that was me that said Sweden, instead of Switzerland! Part of that was very tongue in cheek. If you can't handle or afford 2 dogs and are physically disabled and can't go out for play dates, should your "only" be rehomed (assuming there ARE enough homes) or PTS? Bah

Yay!! So glad you got another piggie. Woodland-Get-Aways (wood houses) are a great purchase since the g-pigs can chew on them.

Wheeeeek! Welcome to the herd.

Welcome to Orange ... and to cavy slavedom. They do grow on you. I know. I have 17 of these incredible creatures. About half are rescues. One of the rescues turned out to be a boy instead of a girl so I ended up with a litter of 5. I just couldn't give any of them away. I was afraid they'd end up as snake food or something. I also use the Orchard Grass from Oxbow, as well as their pellets. Of course, I have to have large amounts shipped to me to cover all of the "Munchees'" dietary needs.

Congratulations on your new little piggy, and I'm so happy that you've adopted a little friend for Apfel. They are such wonderful little critters and it's sad to know that so many are in need of homes. Please keep us posted and enjoy!

Hi there! Thank you for invoking The Madness. :) I have always had a rather large herd in the past, but I'm down to a more manageable two piggies, Titania and Hazel. Orange will indeed settle down, as Apfel did. Giving her a towel to tunnel into while you hold her might ease her into being handled, too.

I'd love to hear more about Orange and Apfel. I think I shall be including your entry in my next CavyMadness newsletter! :)
