“Speaking truth to power” is a great topic for a post penned in the hours between Martin Luther King Jr.’s 80th birthday celebration and the inauguration of our first African-American president…even if this is only a pet health blog.
His continued pursuit of this theme, expertly pioneered in the civil rights arena by MLK, is my primary wish for Mr. Obama’s presidency. We can only hope that our new President's perseverance in meeting his stated goals and his commitment to speak out for justice in the face of political opposition will not wane with the power he attains today.
It’s an especially apropos topic for a small blog given that what moves most bloggers is not the financial remuneration or the elusive fame…it’s the freedom to speak truth to power from a place as lowly as a shack in the woods or a sofa-seat at Starbucks…with the possibility of reaching millions with our message.
So Mr. President, here’s a bark-out to you on this auspicious day. It’s from all of us who dare to hope for big things and aspire to effect positive change in the world, no matter the size of our splash. We wish you well.
Whatever your political leanings, I hope you can all join me in this…
What are your hopes for the new administration?

Just knowing that he is intesrested in trying to help fix problems for more people than before, especially by giving us a reason to hope, makes me thrilled that he's our new President.

I'm apologizing for my rant ahead of time. I'm hoping for a goverment that actually understands that American citizens are its customers. Not lobbyists, not foreign governments, but works in our interests.
Things that seem so straightforward have been turned upside down by our government.
Examples: FDA - We don't know how much melamine in baby formula is dangerous so don't worry. Ok, how about NONE, then I won't worry.
Let's only teach abstinance only. And what's your back up plan when that doesn't work. Nothing, and then you are shocked by the high number of abortions? I have a great idea. Let's not have kids making babies in the first place. Its called birth control.
Let's give a gazillion $s to Wall Street cause they'll know what to do with it. Yeah, like keep it for their own bonuses. How about they have to account for every cent of it, even the $ given before? Let's pretend that global warming doesn't exist, that dinosaurs lived at the same time as people, that gay folks are ruining our marriages, that prayer in school will cure all problems, that housing prices will always go up.....etc. And let's not forget about those WMD that Iraq had.
Well, that worked out will didn't it.

My hope is that each of us seeks a way that we can be of service to our community. Rather than pinning our hopes on the president, or the government, we all need to work together for the greater good.

Honesty, integrity, morality, service to others in need, from the top down to the citizens. We've done it before and lost sight. Hopefully we will all refocus priorities. I have great hope and inspiration for his leadership.

Congratulations from another Canadian on your wonderful, wise and positive choice of a president. You put on a great show, and we are hoping that much good comes from this administration.

My sincere hope for Barack Obama and his administration is that he lives up to his own hype -- that is not to say that I expect superhuman achievements, but rather:
PLEASE be "about" what you say you are about. PLEASE be for real. Please dont let us down. We have put our faith in you. I don't expect quick progress - things are too messed up. And I believe he is the man for the moment, but nonetheless human. I just want him NOT to become corrupted, NOT to compromise TOO much, to maintain his personal integrity and his inner compass. I want him to demonstrate that he really is ABOUT what he says he is about.

Obama can't do it alone. In fact, there's very little he can actually do. As he said (and, of course, I'm paraphrasing :), we mucked it up and it will take all of us to fix it. I'm just thrilled he said it. Now it's up to us, far more than him. Even if he falls down on the job, we mustn't. Keep telling truth to power and then follow up, be powerful!
