Cash is my new puppy, a pity case from work. The owners couldn't afford to treat him, so he was signed over to me. He's a 2.6 pound, 10 week old Jack Russell Terrier puppy. He has a swollen right wrist and he's acutely painful all over. He was extremely hypoglycemic and flat out when he came in. We still don't know what's really going on with him. Thankfully he seems to be improving, though I thought I was going to lose him last night. He is off iv fluids now (the catheter blew) and on three antibiotics (Clavamox, Clindamycin, and Doxycycline), pain meds (Buprenex), and now we have also started him on Prednisone. He's definitely better. He's eating on his own, he's up and walking around, he even scampered today, but he's still painful if you touch him wrong. He screams and screams and it just breaks my heart.
Please, if you have good thoughts, think them for my little unintentional puppymill posterchild. He needs them.

I have a hard time differentiating pain from stress in puppies. Have you tried a straightforward pain reliever like an opiate? If he's less painful, that would help me feel certain that it's real pain and not the kind of crazy terrier fear we see in pups of this breed.
If you've got a neurologist, internist or surgeon around, I'd haul over my pup and beg them for a look-see. That's what I do when my patients stump me.
Vet thinks it was meningitis.
Whatever it was, I hate it.
