#1 I'm a bit puzzled over the ranking of kittie victims, maybe of interest of the pros/cons of feral cat controversy.I can relate a memory of back to the late 80's, early 90's, when my significant "other" and I disagreed over what to do with 4 feral kittens hanging around. He patiently captured them (not easy!) and had pre-arranged spays & vaccines down at a clinic in MA. where a renowned Vet (now deceased) was doing s/n for dirt cheap prices (he was the epitomy of altruism). All were female, and one by one, between 6 mos. and a year, we never saw them again.
#2 Teacups?? Gosh, my Pocket was a "teacup----no-pocket-sized" Scottie, a true runt that never grew to normal size, but looked like a puppy forever. The only "mini", I ever bred or owned, all her littermates normal and healthy (poor uterine placement, perhaps?). Lots of folks would inquire as to "breeding" her to make more-- I would shudder, but respond that not only would it be irresponsible to deliberately ignore the standard, it would endanger her life!! I never did figure out how a tiny dog could take up so much room in a queen-size bed.
#3 C-sections--Wowwee, if any responsible breeder is not prepared for the possibilty of C-sections, shame on them!! Pocket's dam free-whelped 6 pups in 1995, and was bred again 1997. Things did not go as well, second time around , unable to pass 11 and 12 oz. pups (now 11+ yrs. old) and it was down for a mid-night section (Vet was prepared in advance, knowing she was in whelp before clinic closing). I'll NEVER forget it, since I was the "assistant". How does that HUGE uterus fit in that abdomen??
At the same time, a clueless co-worker bred her pet German Shepherd ---no pre-natal,no x-ray, no post-whelping exam. Her pet dam DIED with a retained pup, I was disgusted, heartsick, and could barely speak to her for years!!
#4 Why vets become vets? That doesn't seem mysterious at all to me. The bigger question is why do some become BAD vets?? When does this happen? Is there something that triggers a change in vet school, does the learning process create a detached feeling towards animals, do rude and clueless clients build resentment? Do vets go bad post graduation, feeling financial pressure, huge out-of-control egos? Do they feel revenge over a partnership gone sour, and derive sick pleasure over scamming a client of the other party? I'd like insight into that "human---not humane" factor, that surely ethical vets are privvy to.
Those are my 4 faves, that I can relate to!!
What I will say is that little kitty in the photo for this post is hilarious. What on earth happened to its ears? It's so cute!!!!!
