Dr. K, do you want bloodwork when it's for a common sedative like Acepromazine? When we took kitty in last week for UTI, we asked the vet for a sedative for Neurotic Dog. She's taken Clomicalm in previous years, but has never had a sedative. ND is also a client of the vet, and we got a prescription for Ace right there.
For what it's worth, we always stay home with ND with the windows shut and a movie playing.

Most people have no idea medicating them can actually make their pets fears worse. Because now the pet can still hear/experience the scary stuff but physically can't react as they like! It's like being trapped. Sure they may look ok, because they can't physically move from being doped up, but mentally they may be in panic city. Medication needs to be used in conjunction with a behavior modification program to be the most effective/humane for the pets. The trouble is people want a fast easy (for them) quick fix.

Marie: Storm Defender capes work wonders for pets with thunderstorm phobia because it interferes with the electromagnetic radiation that comes with the storms. It wouldn't work particularly well for fireworks, I don't think.
